Simple Sugar Syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup hot water
Mix and heat until all the sugar dissolves.
Per Mark Bittman, can remain refrigerated indefinitely.
I use this in sorbet and in ice cream I do not heat.
This is also very useful for iced tea.
